Science at Our School

At our school, we believe science is about curiosity, discovery and understanding the world around us. Our science curriculum is designed to inspire children to think like scientists – asking questions, making observations, carrying out investigations and drawing conclusions.

Why We Teach Science

Science helps children make sense of everyday life and understand how the world works. It encourages critical thinking, problem-solving and informed decision-making. By learning science, pupils develop skills that will help them contribute positively to society and prepare them for the future.

How We Teach Science

We follow a structured curriculum based on the National Curriculum, organised into three key strands:

  • Scientific knowledge and understanding – learning concepts in biology, chemistry and physics.
  • Working scientifically – developing skills to investigate, test ideas and analyse results.
  • Science in action – exploring how science impacts our lives and the environment.

Lessons are practical, engaging and inclusive. Children revisit key ideas regularly, building deeper understanding over time. We use discussion, hands-on activities and technology to make learning interactive and meaningful. Environmental issues, sustainability and real-world applications are woven throughout the curriculum.

What We Hope Children Will Achieve

By the end of their time at our school, we want every child to:

  • Be curious and confident in exploring scientific ideas.
  • Understand key scientific concepts and how they connect.
  • Apply scientific skills to investigate and solve problems.
  • Appreciate the role of science in everyday life and its impact on the planet.
  • Feel empowered to think critically and act responsibly for a sustainable future.

Science at our school is more than a subject – it’s a way of thinking that helps children grow as learners and as citizens of the world.
