Computing at Our School
Why Computing Matters
At our school, we believe computing is a vital part of every child’s education. In today’s digital world, children need more than just technical skills—they need to be confident, creative, and responsible users of technology.
Our computing curriculum helps children:
- Explore and enjoy using technology.
- Understand how digital systems work.
- Develop skills for future learning and the workplace.
- Learn how to stay safe and make smart choices online.
We follow the Kapow Primary Computing scheme, which supports national guidance and helps children become digitally literate and responsible online citizens.
How We Teach Computing
Computing is taught through three key strands:
- Computer Science – learning how computers and networks work, and how to code.
- Information Technology – using software to create, manage and present content.
- Digital Literacy – understanding how to use technology safely and respectfully.
Our lessons are hands-on and engaging, using a mix of digital tools, group work, and creative tasks. We also link computing to other subjects like art, music and science to make learning meaningful and fun.
Online safety is a priority. We regularly share guidance with pupils and families, and our RSE curriculum supports safe and respectful digital behaviour.
What Children Will Achieve
By the time children leave our school, they will:
- Be confident and responsible users of technology.
- Know how to stay safe online and manage their digital wellbeing.
- Use technology to express ideas and solve problems.
- Show clear progress in coding, media creation, data handling and communication.
- Be ready for secondary school and life in a digital world.
